SIMON BOLIVAR
Simon Bolivar was a leader in the wars for independence in South America. He and other leaders fought against the Spanish. Bolivar wanted independence for all the people in Latin America. Bolivar helped Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela win their independence.
Bolivar was born in present day Venezuela from a wealthy family. He was well educated and read many different books. He learned about equality and freedom and after learning about the French Revolution, he was inspire to break away from Spain.
From 1810 to 1824, Bolivar led different groups of troops against Spanish rule. He was able to defeat the Spanish in 1824 and ended Spanish control in South America. The country of Bolivia was name after Bolivar. Bolivar was known as "The Liberator" or freedom fighter in South America.
